Good for beginners...if you're more advanced, look elsewhere.

If you're a beginner this is a great book. However, I guess I'm at a higher level than what this book aims for. For example, I don't need the whole history of email, nor do I need basics on getting around a Linux system. Also, this book used FC4 and sendmail, while I am a Debian guy who uses Postfix.

If you've never set up a server before, give this book a shot. Otherwise, look for something a little more advanced.

Also - Poor editing! See especially the discussion of IMAP servers (appears as "IMA" in several tables). There are other assorted errata as well. Nothing a second edition can't fix (from what I saw).

Well structured book for first time mail server systems

I bought this book just out of interest to read a book about mail servers.
I have setup mail servers before (including virtual domains etc.).

I think this book sales point is the combination of the well thought structured contents, the nice contents flow, the good administration manners and well paced chapters based on simple proven solutions.

Its one of the books which you just cant put down till the end. The author has its very own idea of how to tell the story and its refreshingly different.

He is deliberately splitting up processes for server and client side point of view (f.e sending and receiving e-mails, filtering etc.)and goes the extra miles to bring his points accross.

The book describes all required functionality for basic, but full blown mail server systems (Virtual domains, clusters etc. are - if at all - only mentioned for completion purpose).

I did like that the authors have a good feeling on how much information first time system admins can take. Whereever possible the author gives basic explanations about the components described, warn to make backups before proceeding, and reasons the design decisions he made (keywords: backward compatibility with previous standards, work arounds etc.).

I also liked the motivating spirit, design considerations and experiences the author is sharing with the reader. I would give it 5 stars for junior system administrators, 3-4 for seniors.

I find the story itself , how its told, its ideas and the spirit of it most impressive.

This book is a bit outdated since its focus is on outdated packages which have lost favor in data centers. I'd give it a miss.

This book was a hit with 8-yr old

This book was a hit with my 8-yr old nephew. It is very well organized, particularly the coordination between the recommended activities and worksheets as they relate to each chapter of the book. My nephew was really engaged in the activities as well as our reading of the book together, and the worksheets helped expand his perspective of conversation and finding mutual interests. This is an excellent book and it really gave my nephew many "ah ha!" moments.

great resource for teaching some conversation skills

great book with awesome visuals to explain how to find a common topic with a conversational partner. The book is very well done and has several parts to it - could be used over and over to teach students these conversational skills - I just wish it came with a digital version as well so I could display it on the computer projector.

Visually stunning!

Conversation can be difficult for a lot of people, but for those on the autism spectrum, it can be nearly impossible. As a teacher who works with autistic children and adults, I'm always looking for ways to make interaction less painful for this population. This book is full of appealing design and photography that makes the work of finding common ground easier. Some pages are even divided so that two people sitting face to face can point to pictures on the same page and have a starting place for conversation. The graphics are very clever, for example, Mr. Shaul represents people's interests with photos contained in individual circles then shows these circles intersecting to represent common ground. I think this book will be very helpful to those on the autism spectrum and everyone working with these individuals.

'Media Studies' on Flickr, Twitter, Facebook

The book is great for media beginners, full of case studies and concrete examples. It's also very modern, it has a companion website, Twitter stream and Flickr stream: [...] and [...]. The latter is a funny way of learning media theory through images: ethnography, slash fiction, discourse analysis. If all books were presented like that, the session of exams would be a lot less painful..

How to Design, Build & Equip Your Automotive Workshop On A Budget by Jeffrey Zurschmeide is full of tips that can be applied to any studio or workshop that requires heavy-duty equipment and a safe space because the author has given attention to almost every conceivable detail you will need to consider. He also keeps his eye on the bottom-line. His advice will enable to create the safe, efficient, and effective workshop of your dreams.

Why worry about safety beyond the obvious care you should take of yourself, loved ones, friends and any workers you employ? Your insurance rates will be lower if you follow the guidelines, tips and projects in this book, because you will have set up your workshop with safety in mind from the get-go.

However, insofar as I can tell, he never cuts corners just for the sake of cutting corners. He has learned from his own workshop experience and has thought through the process so you can benefit from both his mistakes and his insights.

As mentioned earlier this book provides many ideas that can be adapted for any work space, be it artistic or automotive, but if you are wanting or needing a space to work on vehicles, this is the book you need. It is comprehensive and creative. It will save you money while not compromising on safety or quality. I am grateful for the opportunity to review this book through Library Thing. We will be using many of the projects and tips in this book for a sculpting and ceramics studio, but will be recommending the book to friends who have a passion on renovating and repairing cars and trucks.

Informative, Fun, and Filled with Innovation

There are a number of good books on automotive workshops out there, but this is now my favorite. Zurschmeide has given a lot of thought to the organization of this book. It is as well laid out as the shops he presents. Add to that hundreds of color photographs and countless innovative tips and you have a book that is just plain fun to view and read. If you are building a shop from scratch, or would like take what you have to the next level, this is the book.

SA books are usually good value. This is no exception. Covers topics from layouts, heat, electical, from simple cabinets to a home lifts. Pictures were great. Read in twice the first night I received and will continue to referrence. Very comprehensive.

Dissapointed

Summary, You should only play high quality hands, you should call 70 percent of the time, regardless of flop, turn, and river. Do the math, if you start with 20 precent of the hands, you reduce this with 70 precent on the flop(14 percent), the turn(9.8) and the river(6.8). 6.8 percent is how often you should see the river or showdown, These are your "frequencies" This is how the "pros" do it. You have an exponential pyramid. If you play too loose, your base is too big, If you call too infrequently, you are giving money away and your pyramid sides are not smooth. If you have not figured out the frequency of bluffing to value betting yet, this book could help you but, that doe not work with this 70 percent rule very well. You will be walking home if you try to carry pocket aces into a hand that somone flops trips. What a waste of a book. I have read Ed Millers' column for a long time and really expected more. This is the first poker book I have read that I was so dissapointed with the content, that I sent it back. I have probably 20-30 books and have learned something from every one even if they were somewhat more fundamental than Ed's. This will not elevate your game to "the pokers 1%", it will remove $42 from your wallet.

Beyond Disappointed

I wasn't expecting on writing a review on a poker book today but I felt that I should leave some feedback. I've always enjoyed Ed's articles and books. He's a very smart individual. Unfortunately, this book wasn't applicable to the games that I play, mainly $1/2, $2/5, $5/10 and tournaments. Playing this type of style at the lower limits is like throwing money into the Nits/Rocks/Tag players hand. I can't begin to tell you how many poker books that I have read and I always pick up some piece of information. I'm a winning poker player and this book actually regressed my game. I've had to purge all of the information that I've read in this book and send it back to Amazon because I don't want it in my library of poker books. I guess I was looking for that magic bullet or that "I get it" moment that I get from so many books but I was very disappointed. I don't mind doing the work because I'm use to doing a lot of analysis every day for poker. This style of "You should only play high quality hands, you should call 70 percent of the time, regardless of flop, turn, and river" is probably great for my opponents so that I can take their money. I'm a pro poker player. Hope my review helps. Best wishes in your journey.

Very cool new title from Ed Miller

I wrote a bit more about this one on my own site, because it wasn't available on Amazon yet. And incidentally? If you buy this title direct from Ed Miller on his own site, he gets quite a bit more of the proceeds than if you purchase it via Amazon. Just figured I'd mention it--Amazon pays authors about double the % of each sale if the price is between $2.99 and $.99.

Anyway, this book: nice! It's a great intro to some other books (he mentions Janda, though I strongly prefer Tipton), but Miller's "frequency first" approach is much more intuitive than the other material I've read and it's likely to, all by itself, improve the play of those who grasp the material. He offers useful suggestions for study (I'd add "Card Runners EV" or "CREV" to his software recommendations).

I think there's a further step one could easily take here, which informs much of my own play--which is almost entirely in live cash games, so you've never heard of me, so what do I know?--which is this: sometimes your opponent's specific range doesn't matter any more than his specific hand. Often a rough notion as to an opponent's frequency/likelihood of taking a specific line is all the card/betting analysis necessary unless your own hand happens to be very strong. IOW, if he's in bet/fold mode, your hand doesn't matter. And if he's in go-to-the-river-and-get-all-in mode, your hand likewise doesn't matter unless you happened to pick up a (situationally determined) monster. Miller doesn't miss this point, exactly, but he seems more concerned with range construction--both yours and villain's--than with determining an objectively best play in the moment. My own experience is that, while range construction/deconstruction can be very important, it's frequently an unnecessary step--that will, if you let it, tend to obscure the other thoughts you might be usefully having. Metagame stuff, mainly...sometimes it seems to me "metagame" is nearly all I'm thinking about during a session.

That said? I really, really, enjoyed this book. Miller claims he's not being original but is merely trying to be a middleman between cutting-edge theorists/players and the teeming masses, or words to that effect. I respectfully disagree! He's really good at cutting directly to the root of a problem and exposing its innards for us all to view. I know...yuck. But, you know, useful.

And he's absolutely right about the necessity for homework.

Greenberg's viewpoint on the opposite sex essentially involves his subtitle: describing the things he does that make his wife treat him like an idiot. There's plenty of good material in this alone, as well as in some sidesplitting, borscht belt–style material about his gambling-addicted aunt Ada. Unfortunately, the slightly pompous but desperately charming Greenberg also feels the need to fill readers in on such matters as why he doesn't like going to the supermarket and what designer labels he's wearing.

Greenberg is half of the Mike and Mike in the Morning sports-chat radio show on ESPN radio and is also an occasional anchor and reporter on the same network's SportsCenter TV program. On the air, he is funny, literate, and obviously well read far beyond the narrow borders of sports. Here, examining his public life in the context of his roles as father and husband, he exhibits the same sensibilities that make him an engaging on-air presence. He tackles the inherent absurdity of his job--chatting about sports in a complex, ever-more-troubling world--but also about the perks of his quasi fame and the joy he extracts from his work. It's nice to read about a lucky sports guy who knows he is lucky and unabashedly celebrates it. He also takes many of the things he has observed in a life dominated by sports and explains how he is applying them to the raising of his daughter. About the Author
Matthew Morris has worked with the Oracle database since 1996 when he worked in the RDBMS support team for Oracle Support Services. Employed by Oracle for over eleven years in support and development positions, Matthew was an early adopter of the Oracle Certified Professional program. He was one of the first one hundred Oracle Certified Database Administrators (version 7.3) and was also in the first hundred to become an Oracle Certified Forms Developer. In the years since, he has upgraded his Database Administrator certification for releases 8i, 9i, 10g, 11g, and 12c; become an Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional; added the Expert certifications for Application Express, Oracle SQL, and Oracle SQL Tuning, as well as the Specialist certification for Oracle Linux 6. Matthew is an experienced Database Administrator and PL/SQL developer and has been creating Web applications with Oracle Application Express since the early days of its release. He is currently employed as a Database Engineer with Computer Sciences Corporation developing enterprise applications.

This book has good knowledge, BUT absolutely does not prepare you what will be on this exam! Also, there are a lot of spelling errors in this book. Did they even proofread this?

An OCP prep guide without any sample questions for reviewing covered materials. The author separately sells exam questions at his web site, but the problem is that you can only have one attempt to try out the questions there. You would be better off from googling each exam topics from the internet and read Oracle doc.

The issue was not "Who of David's sons will be king?" the author points out, but more likely " Is there any of David's sons fit to sit on the throne of David?"

The commentary offers a full general bibliography with additional specialized listings of up-to-date bibliographies at the beginning of each chapter and of each section of the Introduction. The Introduction discusses:

• The literary history of2 Samuel
• Samuel's relation to the books of Joshua, Judges, and Kings
• The Succession Narrative
• The text of2 Samuel and its research
• The use of2 Samuel in the Scriptures.

The volume provides a fresh translation with detailed explanatory notes concerning original word choices. Carefully evaluating textual evidence from the Masoretic Text, the Septuagint, Qumran texts, the Targums, and Latin texts, Anderson holds that no one of these has a monopoly as "the best witness" to the original text. Each variation is thus evaluated for the contribution it can make.
